CHENGDU, China, July 6, 2026 —The six-day “Bioenergy” course officially opened in Room B503 of the First Teaching Building on Sichuan University’s Jiang’an Campus. Delivered by Professor Pau-Loke Show of UCSI University, Malaysia, the course attracted more than 120 undergraduate students from multiple schools and a wide range of academic backgrounds. Associate Professor Jing Chen of the School of Chemical Engineering is providing on-site coordination and teaching support throughout the program.
The course focuses on the fundamental principles, enabling technologies, and emerging applications of bioenergy. Key topics include the development and utilization of biomass resources, biofuel production, biological hydrogen generation, energy-conversion processes, and the role of bioenergy in carbon-emissions reduction and sustainable development. Against the backdrop of the global energy transition and the growing demand for green and low-carbon development, Professor Show introduced the current landscape, major technological pathways, application scenarios, and future trends of the bioenergy sector. His lectures help students understand the field from the interconnected perspectives of scientific principles, engineering technologies, and industrial applications.
Professor Show combines structured lectures with active classroom engagement. Through case studies, guided questions, and group discussions, he encourages students to think critically about bioenergy technologies and their practical potential. In addition to acquiring core knowledge, students are able to strengthen their ability to analyze real-world problems, develop greater awareness of engineering practice, and broaden their international academic outlook. The lively teaching approach and well-organized course content have created an engaging learning environment and encouraged enthusiastic participation.
As China continues to advance its carbon-peaking and carbon-neutrality goals, optimize its energy structure, and expand the use of renewable energy, bioenergy is becoming an increasingly important component of a green, low-carbon, and renewable energy system. It has significant value in resource recycling, pollution reduction, and the substitution of conventional energy sources. The “Bioenergy” course enables students to build a systematic knowledge framework for green energy, enhance their awareness of sustainable development, and expand their global perspective. It also lays a solid foundation for future study, research, and professional practice in new energy, environmental governance, green chemical engineering, and related fields.
