On July 6, 2026, the courseInstrumental Methods of Analysiswas officially launched at Sichuan University’s Jiang’an Campus. The course was taught by Associate Professor Kun-Lin Yang, Deputy Head of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and attracted 120 undergraduate students from various disciplines, including chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, mathematics, materials science, medicine, public health, and economics. The 16-hour course was conducted over six days, with Professor Shaojun Yuan from the Department of Chemical Engineering providing teaching support.

The course introduced key theories, techniques, and applications of modern instrumental analysis, covering atomic spectroscopy, molecular spectroscopy, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, NMR, ESR, chromatography, and thermal analysis methods. Professor Yang integrated fundamental principles of electromagnetic radiation–matter interactions with instrument structures and analytical applications, helping students understand method selection, detection capabilities, and practical applications from both scientific and engineering perspectives.

Throughout the course, Professor Yang combined theoretical instruction with real-world research examples, including applications in biosensors, liquid crystals, microfluidic systems, wastewater treatment, and green catalysis. Through case studies and interactive discussions, students enhanced their understanding of analytical technologies and their interdisciplinary applications.

With students from diverse academic backgrounds, the course highlighted the broad relevance of instrumental analysis across chemistry, materials science, life sciences, medical testing, environmental monitoring, and engineering. The successful delivery ofInstrumental Methods of Analysishelped students build a systematic understanding of modern analytical methods, strengthen experimental and engineering skills, and expand their international academic perspectives.
